What people are saying about the Plodding Through The Presidents podcast:

“A must listen to!  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This podcast is by far one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. There is always such a good balance of history and humor that make it a joy to listen to. I’ve gotten friends who have no interest in history hooked on this…”

“A winner right out of the gate… ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Smart and funny – Howard and Jess are the perfect duo to make this podcast.”

Join history enthusiast and blogger Howard Dorre and his wife Jessica Dorre for an irreverent dive into lesser-known stories about the American presidents and the early republic.

The award-nominated Plodding Through The Presidents podcast explores myths, mysteries, scandals, and other oddities that shed light on the personalities of the founders and their families.

Why is this podcast called “Plodding Through The Presidents?”
In retrospect, maybe going with a word that literally means “slow and boring” wasn’t the best choice, since we try to be anything but. The name comes from the blog I started in 2013 as part of a project to read a biography of every US president in order. It didn’t go as planned. I fell in love with the founding era—the wild personalities, the dynamic relationships, the wealth of primary sources about some of these folks and their families! So that’s where I decided to dig in, diving into lesser-known stories from this era, along with Jess who brings out the best in me and these stories.

So while there are fantastic podcasts that go through each presidency in chronological order, this isn’t one of them. This podcast is more like a TARDIS that takes you to random places in the early United States.

Where can I listen?
You can find Plodding Through The Presidents almost anywhere you listen to podcasts, including:
Apple Podcasts
Google Podcasts
and more!

You can also listen to full episodes right here at PlodPod.com.

Your podcast is listed as “explicit” – what’s up with that?
We talk about some of the private lives of the founders, which can include some adult themes. And sometimes, when discussing the past conversationally, it’s difficult not to swear if you’re me or my wife. I recommend listening and then deciding for yourself whether to expose the podcast to your parents.

Why should I join your Patreon?
We can only think of three reasons:

  1. Your uncle died and you’re set to inherit $300 million but only if you can spend $30 million in 30 days with nothing to show for it and you can only donate up to 5% or else you’ll be disqualified. (Sorry pal, you’re stuck in the underrated 1985 Richard Pryor film Brewster’s Millions.)
  2. You want to support our efforts (books for research, recording equipment, hosting, etc.) and get some great behind-the-scenes extras and exclusive content like cut scenes, full unedited videos of our interviews with authors and historians, surprises in the mail, virtual meetups, and the bonus podcast “Kinderplodding” with our 7-year-old daughter.
  3. All of the above.

If any of those apply to you, consider joining our Patreon family—we’d truly appreciate it!
