UPDATE: Pasadena convention date postponed – new date TBD.
UPDATE 3/11/2020: HISTORYCon has been postponed, per Wallman Public Relations due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19. You can find more information here. A new date is still to be determined, and I’ll share that information as soon as it’s available, along with any changes to the lineup I’ve mentioned below.
Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “I am tired of practical politics, and happier while reading the history of ancient than of modern times.” I feel you, Tom. I feel you.
That’s why I’m excited to escape to The History Channel’s HISTORYCON, coming to the Pasadena Convention Center April 3 – 5, 2020. [NEW DATES TBD.] This is a great opportunity for West Coast history lovers like me, since the East Coast is notorious for hogging so much American history.
My wife and podcasting partner in crime Jess and I will be there on Sunday, and we’re especially stoked to see a panel called Inside The White House: America’s First Families that’s right up our alley. Check out their description of the panel:
“We draw back the drapes of the White House for a unique perspective on the public and private lives of the presidents, first ladies and their children. We draw back the drapes of the White House for a unique perspective on the public and private lives of the presidents, first ladies and their children. We’ll explore the evolution of the evolution of the role of first spouse, how these high-profile relationships have changed history and how our vision of the presidents reflects who we are as a nation.”
Yes, please.
That talk will be moderated by Alexis Coe, author of the new George Washington biography You Never Forget Your First.

Show me a better presidential biography book cover. I’ll wait.
And that’s just one of many cool-sounding events. You can also check out a talk on Lincoln and John Brown by H.W. Brands and a panel on Cold War spies with a real-live former CIA officer and a former KGB sleeper agent in addition to an expansive marketplace that already has my bookshelves quivering in fear.
If you’ll be there, be sure to shout out on Twitter @plodwithme so we can say hello!
