BOOK GIVEAWAY
This season is going to be bigger than ever, with more incredible lesser-known stories of the early republic AND the addition of a few exciting guests. We’re giving away a two-book bundle of new books by the first two guests on our podcast: Dr. Lindsay Chervinsky, author of The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution and Dr. Cara Finnegan, author of Photographic Presidents: Making History from Daguerreotype to Digital.
Chervinsky weaves a fascinating narrative about George Washington and his Cabinet members that fills in a lot of gaps you might have if, say, you mostly stick to presidential biographies. Finnegan focuses on the history and power of photography through the lens of the American presidents. Both authors, as you’ll hear this season, share my love for John Quincy Adams.
The giveaway runs through September 1 and the winner will be announced on Monday, September 6.

When I started this whole thing as a presidential reading project and blog many moons ago, I never imagined I’d be turning it into a podcast one day, let alone selling merchandise. Even the word itself feels strange. It reminds me of watching Wheel of Fortune as a kid where a bunch of prizes came from a place called “Service Merchandise” that sounded so luxurious. Or me watching a Rated R movie as a kid where one scuzzy guy would yell to another scuzzy guy, “hey, hands off the merchandise!” when he touched a woman or bag of cocaine inappropriately.
That settles it – I’m using the term merch from now on. That feels a little strange too, to be honest, but it’s a lot more fun to say. Especially if you say it with a little emphasis.
